Disputing Inaccurate Information On Your Credit Report

As a consumer you have the right to request that the credit bureau investigate inaccurate information on your credit report. The credit bureau is required to perform an investigation on your dispute by making contact with the creditor, lender or organization that reported the information.

If found that the information in dispute was inaccurately reported, if the creditor fails to respond to the request or the creditor no longer has the record, the credit bureau will either delete or correct the information on your credit report.

There are three credit bureau's Equifax, Trans Union and Experian. Some creditors may report to only one bureau while others might report to all three. It is highly recommended that you view your credit report from all three credit bureau's [Three Bureau Merged Report] and send your dispute to all bureau's reporting the inaccurate information, as each credit bureau will only correct their own records.

If the creditor proves the information to be accurate then the information will not be removed or changed. You will be notified of the outcome at the end of the investigation by mail.
